The Archaeological Scienes guest lecture series is delighted to welcome Professor Ian Barnes to discuss his research applying next generation DNA sequencing to archaeological remains, both human and faunal. Ancient DNA research is having a significant impact on archaeological research, and offers the potential to revolutionise our understanding of many of the great archaeological questions.

Professor Barnes is a molecular biologist and Resarch Leader at the Natural History Museum, London, with specialisms in Ancient DNA, Biomolecular Archaeology, Evolutionary Biology, the Late Pleistocene, Population Genetics, and Taxonomy.

Previously holding positions at Royal Holloway University, as a Wellcome Trust Bioarchaeological Fellow at University College London, and at the University of Oxford, Ian has produced many publications on the subject of ancient DNA, and is currently principal investigator on the project “Human adaptation to changing diet and infectious disease loads, from the origins of agriculture to the present”.

We hope you can join us in welcoming Professor Ian Barnes to the University of Bradford, and attending what will be an interesting lecture at the cutting edge of modern archaeological research.
