The global covid-19 pandemic and ensuing government mobility restrictions in the UK during 2020-2021 placed significant issues for the conduct of field archaeology in the UK. While commercial archaeology was continuing as a critical industry, research excavation was placed into a complicated ethical position.
Professor Chris Gaffney and Dr Ben Jennings explore the University of Bradford, School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences, approach to fieldwork during the covid-19 pandemic, highlighting some of the challenges, positives, and unexpected outcomes of their fieldwork.
