Survey in the sun at Lister Park

28 Jun by Gaffney, Vince

Staff and students from SAFS spent a hot day at Lister Park last week testing a new sensor in the boating lake. The parametric sonar device, manufactured by Innomar is new instrument configuration built in specific response to the needs of the Submerged Landscapes research group in the department, and allows the collection of bathymetry and sub-bottom information in very shallow water columns, making it suitable for inshore and intertidal environments. The team were looking for evidence of the footings of the ‘Chinese Bridge’ and water-slide installations from the 1904 Exhibition in the Park, as part of ongoing research on the archaeology of the Exhibition. The new instrument being tested was bought with funding from the AHRC, under the Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science programme (RICHeS). Last year the University of Bradford became one of 31 organisations participating in this £80 million investment by UKRI. Read more about RICHeS at https://www.riches.ukri.org/
