SAFS expedition to the BM

26 Nov by Gaffney, Vince

On Monday 25th November, thirteen 2nd year archaeology undergraduates at the University of Bradford undertook a daytrip to the British Museum. The trip, arranged as part of the School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences’ second year ‘Interpreting the Past’ module, saw students not only get to visit the home of the UK’s largest collection of cultural heritage artefacts, but also free entry to one of the BM’s newest exhibitions (Hew Locke’s ‘what have we here’), and a behind the scenes look at some of their state-of-the-art scientific analysis facilities, as well as an up-close look at some of the exciting artefacts with one of the curators. A special thanks must go to curator Dr Neil Wilkin and Director of science Prof. Carl Heron (formerly of SAFS!) for kindly sharing their time and expertise in showing everyone around. A great time was had by all, and this unique Bradford opportunity remains, without doubt, a highlight of the course.
