T&A catch up with Dr Alex Surtees and John Constable

27 Mar by Gaffney, Vince

If you missed our earlier article – it was good to see the Telegraph and Argus catch up on SAFS’ Alex Surtees using a raft of technology to authenticate a painting attributed to John Constable. CT scans, Raman spectroscopy ), 3D microscopy and (X-ray fluorescence will be used to study the pigments and style of painting and compare these with known works by Constable.

Alex’s work has been used to assess other paintings by Constable and this demonstrates the range of analytical resources available in SAFS, including equipment provided through the recent CAPCO investment, as well as the range of uses they can be put to.
