Bradford staff and students invited to Woodland Heritage conference

SAFS and Pennine Prospects are jointly hosting a conference on woodland heritage, Friday 16 – Sunday 18 November in the Norcroft Centre. Staff and students are welcome to come along to hear the papers in the Auditorium.

Highlights of the meeting are keynote presentations by Ben Gearey and Suzi Richer on (Friday 10:30) and Ian Rotherham (Saturday 16:00) and talks by Bradford PhD students Michael Butler and Hywel Lewis, as well as papers on the Lake District, the New Forest, Scottish woodlands, wooden artefacts from York and archaeological surveys in North Yorkshire. You are also invited to a Sunday morning guided walk through Hirst Wood near Saltaire, where students from SAFS have been involved with landscape survey and excavations of charcoal burning platforms. This will be led by Hywel Lewis and Woodland Heritage Officer for Pennine Prospects, Chris Atkinson. There will be displays of green woodcrafts, pottery firing (by Bradford postdoc Mike Copper) and horse logging. Please do come along. The meeting point is Hirst Wood car park at 10:30.
